About the Site
The site is generated two fold into Leadership and the Military Transition
One, to share stories of leadership in regards to servant leadership, building trust, empowerment and accountability. In the military, and particularly in aviation, you must live these leadership values. As your airplanes fly off in the distance, you have no other choice but to live them. This site will share and assess leadership topics, stories and historical reviews as means of continuous personal growth and advertise the talents military personnel bring to the corporate world.
Two, to create a library of resources for companies, organizations and individuals (transitioning service members, veterans, and those in support of). The intent is to showcase the talents of these individuals as well as share organizational needs in teams of positions, skills, and traits. Likewise, this site is another resource to connect those willing and interested in networking. The end state is a bridged communication gap between the different jobs, skills, branches, etc. of military personnel and what they bring to the table and the common needs of companies (Human Resource and Hiring Managers) to ease that navigation. In Aviation, when flying high, everything seems so distant, but as you descend to the ground, you establish a more common sight picture. This philosophy can be used for this process.
Hence, the site name, View from the Skies! Because in the end, it is about supporting those who supported us by giving them continued meaning to accomplish the mission post-military career.

About Me
No s--- Ma there I was...the beginning to all war stories and the beginning to my story. As a 10 year army aviation veteran who had accomplished my goal of becoming an air assault company commander, I was not sure what was next. I had no plans past that and quickly realized, another 10 years in the army was not in the cards for many reasons. I had the honor of leading soldiers in combat in Iraq, serving in Afghanistan as born New Yorker, leading soldiers in relationship building in Malaysia and Japan, with it culminating in support of POTUS in India.
"I had the pleasure of working with Ryan while deployed to Afghanistan. He is an exceptional talent and selfless leader, who can expertly manage several tasks. Ryan has the innate ability to command a room and maximize the full potential of his subordinates, while maintaining a healthy sense of humor. " -Will Morris
As a kid with a history degree and love for studying the American Revolution and World War II, leadership meant so much to me, so I figured I would try my hat in the corporate world and re-spark that competitive drive I had growing up and playing sports. So I prepared for my transition (and prepared and prepared), yet I was never really prepared. I was essentially spinning my wheels at high RPMs and inching along. My first post-military opportunity was a big swing and miss. I became more settled at GE Aviation, but still have continued to transition, to figure out what I want in life post-military, which has brought me here.
As I mentioned above, leadership and the military transition are near and dear to my heart and intertwined in my eyes. As a servant leader, I want to support those in the transition and help them as veterans to continue to grow in the business world.
"Ryan played a key role during my Hiring our Heroes fellowship with GE Aviation. He created a 12 week training program during the prior year, he interviewed me amongst other candidates, set up my on boarding process and most importantly he provided mentorship throughout. Ryan took the time to sit down with me weekly to discuss my personal plan on transitioning from the military. He shared his past learning experiences, both good and bad, to provide me more direction and purpose. Ryan is a people person and an asset to any team he is placed on! I hope to work with him again in the future!" -Brennen McGuire
In order to do this, I am taking aim not just at the military service member, but also at the veterans, hiring managers, and HR/TA leaders of these corporations, to bridge that communication gap between the military and business, since so many of the skills and traits are necessary in both worlds. I will provide a reference library on military skills per branch/MOS, regularly openings and required skills in business organizations, connections to talent and decision makers, transitions lessons and success stories, leadership stories from the military and the corporate world, and historical reviews to model yourself after.
Please follow initially on this site for blogs, but subscribe to my podcasts and vlogs with the links founded embedded in this site. I hope to connect people, share lessons and pass on information with the intent of getting service members effectively transitioned the first time to benefit both the corporate organization and the service member.
